    Dear Pauline,

As you have mentioned in the book, we can use British English or American English, both are fine, but what about a mix of these two? I tend to use American English pronunciation and British spelling, for example, I write ‘aesthetic’ but I pronounce /esˈθet̬.ɪk/ as /esˈθed.ɪk/ or sometimes I use a mix of UK and US vocabulary in the same writing or speaking (rubber, eraser, football, soccer, etc.) and these things have become a fossil habit of mine. Some teachers said I need to stick with only one between British English and American English but I’m gonna take the exam soon so I’m really worried about this.

Thank you, have a great day!

    • Pauline

Nowadays, a lot of the time British and US spellings are used interchangeably – especially s or z – the only ones that are very noticeable in my view are or / our. Just be sure to stick to one of these (color / colour etc) and I’m sure you’ll be fine.

I read this book several times. I find it really helpful to get a clear idea of what IELTS exactly requires and what band descriptors really mean. A lot of valuable information here I cannot gain elsewhere. Kudos to Pauline. She is the single IELTS authority in my view.

My eyes were closed, do not know how to learn English due to, most likely, our education system, but now i am convinced, after learning from your precious advice, that i need to take preparation from authentic materials, and now i am doing this. Other than thanking, and wishing you the best luck i have not many other words to express my gratitude. The Almighty God may give you long life.

    • Pauline

I wish you all the best of luck, Nazmul. Make sure to read the book more than once and really work hard at applying the advice to your study and practice. Work on all of your skills, not just the ones you think are a problem.

I’m an IELTS teacher and this book is helping me to clarify a lot of issues related to teaching IELTS to students. There’s a huge amount of information in this book, a lot of it very technical, and so I would recommend this book to all IELTS teachers, so that they can develop a deeper understanding of what students need to do in order to get the band score they need. Thanks Pauline.

    • Pauline

Thanks, Charles, that’s really nice to hear.

‘Strongly recommended. Amazing effort put in by the author. A step by step guide that helps you climb the ladder to success. I came to know what I was actually doing wrong in all those previous attempts. I enjoyed reading the e-book as it seemed as if the author saw right through me, picking all the shortcomings and forcing me to correct them. I also read Cambridge Vocabulary for IELTS. It was extremely helpful. I bought the Cullen IELTS vocab app, it was very useful. One thing that I should admit is I bought the 8+ one and I was aware that I should have completed the 7+ one first ( yes, now and then I tried taking short cuts, but no, not a good idea…)

Finally, I got my IELTS results on the 11th of November – I improved my reading from 6.5 to 7.5, previously I always ran short of time, on the exam day I completed the reading section ten minutes ahead. I also improved my writing from 6.5 to 7. Finally I will be sitting for the PLAB exam. Once again, a very big thank you PAULINE CULLEN! Stay blessed. You are doing a marvellous job’
